A very exciting commission, because I was asked to design something iconic – a long term feature for the city centre. Something thousands of tourists would have in their photo albums.
Shells and jellyfish forms, thongs and ice creams all find their way into the detailing of these designs.
Surfers paradise is a place where historically very few things are permanent, so its an achievement that this design remains in situ, and continues to be rolled out.
Many thanks to the pattern maker Ian Murphy, whose skill made this and many more of my ideas come to life.
This bin is a pretty loose interpretation of a jellyfish, but the curves break up the mass of the wheelie bin surround.
